Fender artist Sally Hope is bassist for Los Angeles-based Sunset Strip darlings Poets & Pornstars, a quintet that proudly and loudly continues that legendary avenue’s tradition of glorious three-chord rock.

Hope has honed her looks, charm and considerable chops to become a formidable stage presence, having learned to play guitar by ear during her formative years. A quick look at her file reveals that she first donned a Fender guitar at age 17, when she joined an all-girl band in Santa Barbara, Calif., whose very first gig (her very first gig, too) was an opening slot for Blondie.

By the time she landed in L.A., Hope was an accomplished player who quickly caught the attention of premier Sunset Strip act Poets & Pornstars, which invited her to join as bassist. Hope transitioned to bass easily and just in time to hit the studio with the band for its independent self-titled 2007 debut album, followed by a spring tour with Veruca Salt and a summer tour with Tesla.

Hope continues to tour nationwide with Poets & Pornstars, and her success as a female in the alpha-male-packed rock world is an inspiration to aspiring female guitarists and bassists everywhere.

And, by the way, Hope plays Fender exclusively—citing the “cool aesthetic, great feel and comfort” that her instruments always deliver. Her Fender arsenal includes two Precision Bass® guitars, a Jaguar® Bass, an American Deluxe Fat Strat®, a late-’90s DG-41S acoustic, a Hot Rod Deluxe amp and a ’72 Vibro Champ®.
