This week: it's Chris Stapleton, the War on Drugs, Lauv and Midland.
Chris Stapleton (feat. Sturgill Simpson): "Hard Livin'"
The great Chris Stapelton slipped his latest album, From a Room: Vol. 2 in just as 2017 ended and still ended up on several best-of lists with his powerful country sound and even more powerful vocals. Stapleton featured that record on his recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, performing the track "Hard Livin'" with fellow country standout Sturgill Simpson. As both men wielded a Telecaster, the performance marked the first time the two had shared the stage together.
The War on Drugs: "Pain"
The War on Drugs celebrated the fact that their single, "Pain," reached No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Alternative chart by stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, with frontman Adam Granduciel playing his trusty Jazzmaster. The track comes off 2017's A Deeper Understanding, which took the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
Lauv: "The Other"
Ari Leff - a.k.a. Lauv - appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform his killer single, "The Other." While Lauv spent most of the sultry Lost in the Light song crooning into the microphone, he picked up a Telecaster to rip a screaming solo to close things out.
Midland: "Make a Little"
Texas country upstarts Midland got to showcase their groovy sound on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert just before the Grammys aired. They had a stake in the awards show, as well, with "Make a Little" earning two nominations - for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. In the late-night spot, frontman Mark Wystrach played his Custom Shop Fiesta Red Kingman, while bassist Cameron Duddy had a Jaguar Bass and guitarist Jess Carson rocked his American Original '60s Telecaster.
