From late-night and daytime sets to in-studio visits and digital exclusives, Fender in Focus gathers the best of the week's performances from Fender players.
This week: the legendary Craig Finn, London Grammar, Tuxedo and U.K. indie outfit Vant.
Craig Finn: "Preludes"
Craig Finn might be best known as the frontman for the Hold Steady, but he is also an accomplished solo artist. With a new solo album entitled We All Want the Same Things on the way March 24, Finn and his band performed the track "Preludes" in the Minneapolis studios of 89.3 the Current, with the singer/songwriter playing his Grateful Dead-stickered Telecaster.
London Grammar: "Big Picture"
London Grammar hasn't put out a new album since 2013's If You Wait, but a fresh one could be on the way, as the trio performed their latest single, "Big Picture," on The Late Late Show with James Corden. The celestial song was gripping in the live setting, as singer Hannah Reid's ghostly vocals reverberated throughout the starlit venue accompanied by guitarist Dan Rothman's Stratocaster.
Tuxedo: "July"
Mayer Hawthorne's Tuxedo project with pproducer Jake One just has a second studio album on the way March 24 appropriately titled Tuxedo II, and they stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to showcase their smooth sounds with the single "July". The nattily dressed duo was backed by a full band that included guitarist Christian Wunderlich, who played his Telecaster Deluxe and bassist Joe Abrams, who kept the groove going with his Precision Bass.
Vant: "Chained to the Rhythm" (Katy Perry Cover)
Typically when artists drop into BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, they cover a popular song, and British indie rockers Vant had an interesting choice with their recent appearance, offering their take on Katy Perry's "Chained to the Rhythm". The five-piece was outfitted in Fender gear, too, with a Strat, Precision Bass and Jazzmaster all making it into the studio.
