John Mayer: "Moving On and Getting Over"
The great John Mayer celebrated the release of two new EPs this year—The Search for Everything: Wave One and The Search for Everything: Wave Two—with an appearance on Ellen. With a Stratocaster in hand and backed by a full band, Mayer delivered the breezy single "Moving On and Getting Over," which comes off the first of the two-EP series.
Tash Sultana: "Electric Feel" (MGMT Cover)
During an in-studio set for Triple J Radio, Australian singer/songwriter Tash Sultana offered a mind-blowing cover of MGMT's classic "Electric Feel." Yes, it was just Sultana and her Telecaster , but the inventive artist used looping pedals to create a wave of sound that lasted nearly eight minutes and surely thrilled the audience.
Strand of Oaks: "Radio Kids"
Tim Showalter, who records under the moniker Strand of Oaks, recently released the fifth studio album in his catalog, the breathaking Hard Love, to widespread critical acclaim. Showalter recently brought some of his new tunes to a New York audience when he performed a set for WFUV listeners at Rockwood Music Hall. As always, Showalter used a Telecaster for the show , which you can see in this clip of the single "Radio Kids."
The Lemon Twigs: "I Wanna Prove It to You"
Long Island, N.Y., brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario, who record as the Lemon Twigs, made their national television debut with a spot on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. With Michael on drums, Brian stood out front with an early 1980s Strat (yes, the STRAT) for the single "I Wanna Prove It to You" off their excellent debut album, Do Hollywood. The Late Show house band, Jon Batista and Stay Human, even joined in to mark this memorable occasion.
