From late-night and daytime sets to in-studio visits and digital exclusives, Fender in Focus gathers the best of the week's performances from Fender players.
This week: Cold War Kids, Mastadon, Khalid and Lo Moon.
Cold War Kids: "Love is Mystical"
The week that their latest album, L.A. Divine, came out, Cold War Kids stopped into the KCRW studios in Santa Monica, Calif., to play a few of their soulful new tracks. With basssist Matt Maust on his beat-up Fender Precision Bass and guitarist David Quan on his Stratocaster, one of those songs was lead single "Love is Mystical". Check it out here.
Mastodon: "Show Yourself"
Carrying the metal torch, Mastodon blew the ears off a raucous crowd at the Jimmy Kimmel Live outdoor stage in Hollywood with a powerful rendition of "Show Yourself". The track features a dual vocal performance from drummer Brann Dailor and bassist Troy Sanders, who of course had one of his signature Jaguar Basses.
Khalid: "Location"
R&B singer Khalid took his breakthrough single, "Location", to Ellen, where he got a rousing ovation from the studio audience and a big hug from host Ellen DeGeneres. Backing Khalid was guitarist JEf Villaluna playing an American Professional Stratocaster HSS (and using a set of Fender In-Ear Monitors).
Lo Moon: "Loveless"
Los Angeles electronic outfit Lo Moon have been making waves with their epic seven-minute single, "Loveless", and they performed that for New York's WFUV radio. For that beautiful and ethereal showing, the band's Crisanta Baker brought out a Mustang Bass and Matt Lowell used a Telecaster.
