From late-night and daytime sets to in-studio visits and digital exclusives, Fender in Focus gathers the best of the week's performances from Fender players.
This week: the Panic! at the Disco, Lower Than Atlantis, Future Islands and American Football.
Panic! at the Disco: "Death of a Bachelor"
It was a full-on wedding reception during Panic! at the Disco's appearance on Ellen, as the Las Vegas-based band performed "Death of a Bachelor" off their 2016 album of the same name. It began with frontman Brendon Urie out front in a shiny jacket accompanied only by a horn section and programmed beats. As extras danced around him and the song reached a fevered pitch, he is joined by a drummer and bassist Dallon Weekes, who naturally was using a Fender Precision Bass.
Lower Than Atlantis: "Had Enough"
English rockers Lower Than Atlantis stopped into BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge to celebrate the release of their fifth studio album, Safe in Sound. Pulling out the hard-hitting single "Had Enough", frontman Mike Duce wielded a menacing Stratocaster while bassist Declan Hart used a sharp Jaguar Bass.
Future Islands: "Ran"
Baltimore's Future Islands returned to late-night television to debut new single "Ran" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and it was yet another memorable experience (remember their viral performance on Letterman a few years back?). Vocalist Samuel T. Herring unleashed his ferocious growl as he slinked back and forth on the stage, while bassist William Cashion kept the dreamy beat moving with his P Bass.
American Football: "Born to Lose"
They went 17 years between their first self-titled album and their recently released second self-titled album and this week post-rock royalty American Football showed up in the Soundcheck studio for a live set. Armed with a row of Fender instruments—from left-to-right that’s a Telecaster, an American Elite Telecaster and a Jazz Bass—the group steamed through a performance of the gently rolling “Born to Lose.”
