It's been 30 years since the Fender Custom Shop was officially launched in Corona, Calif., and to celebrate, eight of the originaly master builders came together to build their ultimate dream guitars in the Founders Design Project.
When luthier Mark Kendrick was approached with the endeavor, he recalled low-rider car culture that was so prevalent in the 1970s when he was growing up in Orange County and created a stunning Stratocaster.
Kendrick's Founders Design Strat boasts a golden teal sparkle burst with transparent walnut back and sides, nickel/chrome hardware (featuring henna-inspired engraving) with vintage-style staggered tuning machines, and an American Vintage Synchronized Tremolo bridge.
In addition, Kendrick hand-wound the pickups himself, adding to the bespoke feel of the guitar.
"It's a sexy beast. Under stage lights, it'll blind people," he said.
