Sections
More than 50 years after its original release, the Princeton Reverb is still one of the most indispensable workhorse guitar amps ever made – played by guitarists on countless stages and in studios worldwide.
And perhaps the most sought after versions of the Princeton Reverb were made from 1964-67, when players loved the original models with the black control panels, which were known for incredible range and sensitivity.
Now, you can access that timeless, classic Fender sound heard on countless hit recordings with the '64 Custom Princeton Reverb. A faithful recreation of the original, this reissue joins the American Hand Wired Series coming from the Fender factory in Corona, Calif., along with the '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, the '57 Custom Champ, the '57 Custom Deluxe and the '57 Custom Twin.
The versatile Princeton Reverb was prized for its ability to bring out the nuances unique to every player, as it was tremendously responsive, offering crystalline cleans and ability to break up when pushed.
Eugene Edwards, guitar player for Dwight Yoakam, is every familiar with the Princeton Reverb, having faithfully used on throughout his career as a solo artist and producer.
"It's the perfect size for guitarists who want a moderately powered amp for any stage or studio situation," said Edwards. "I myself have done entire albums with just one Princeton, and I would just adjust it according to each song. I've also done entire club gigs with just a Princeton anda coupld of pedals.
"If you want to sound guy to love you, bring a Princeton. And in the modern pedalboard era, it is the perfect platform for tone building."
Under the hood, the '64 Custom Princeton Reverb features a hand-wired AA1164 circuit with tube-driven spring reverb and tremolo, Fender Vintage Blue tone capacitors, three 12AX7 and one 12AT7 preamp tubes, 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier tube, Matched pair of 6V6 power tubes, and 12 watts output power.
Its 10” Jensen alnico P10-R speaker delivers sparkling clean tones and moderate breakup, while a solid pine cabinet brings resonance and lighter weight.
All of this comes together in an amplifier that will help you get the most out of your sound.
For players who are looking for vintage tone but don't want to carry around an actual vintage model for fear of damaging it, the '64 Custom Princeton might be the way to go.
This historically accurate model is sure to excite the professional players and collectors alike.
