2018 Roundup: The 10 Most Popular Songs in Fender Play

Since Fender Play launched in the summer of 2017, the library of songs has grown exponentially, with new and exciting tracks from classic and modern artists alike being added every week.

In fact, by the end of the year, Fender Play will have a catalog of 750 diverse songs in genres like country, rock, folk, pop and blues.

In 2018, the list of tracks in Fender Play grew to include even more chart-toppers from some of today's hottest artists. Needless to say, you can find many favorites that you've regularly heard on contemporary airwaves.

As such, take a look at the 10 most popular songs added to Fender Play in 2018 in the list below and try your hand at learning some of your favorites!

Twenty One Pilots: "Stressed Out"

"Stressed Out" is one of Twenty One Pilots' biggest songs, as the Blurryface cut earned the band their first Grammy Award win. The mid-tempo rap-rock track reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 10 chart and No. 1 in both the Hot Rock Songs and the Mainstream Top 40 charts. Composed in the key of A minor, "Stressed Out" has a few strumming techniques, including syncopated strumming, bass note strumming and backbeat strumming, and Fender Play instructor Scott Goldbaum runs through them all for you in this lesson.

Sia: "Cheap Thrills"

"Cheap Thrills" was co-written and released by Australian pop star Sia and was a massive pop hit. In the U.S., the This Is Acting track became Sia's first No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart and also topped the Mainstream Top 40 and Radio Songs charts. It also reached the top position in France, Germany and several other countries. Auli'l Cravalho: "How Far I'll Go"

Don't be alarmed if you are not familiar with Auli'l Cravalho. The actress and singer performed the Lin-Manual Miranda-written "How Far I'll Go" in the Disney animated film Moana, and it immediately swept the world by storm. The song has been translated into 44 languages, with Cravahlo even recording the role of Moana in a Hawaiian-language. Andra Day: "Rise Up"

Andra Day found a big hit on her hands with "Rise Up," which comes off her 2015 debut studio album, Cheers to the Fall. The track was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance and has been used in several television programs and even by Hilary Clinton during her 2016 presidential campaign. Grace VanderWaal: "Clay"

Even though it was originally written on the ukulele, Grace VanderWaal's "Clay" sounds great on the guitar with four open position chords (G, E minor, D and C). "Little Red Wagon" was originally recorded by singer/songwriter Audra Mae, but Miranda Lambert expertly covered it on her 2014 album, Platinum. The spitfire country song boasts a wide variety of dynamics ranging from quiet strums to rock grooves. Black Rose: "Volbeat"

If you're looking for some heavy rock, "Black Rose" by Danish band Volbeat offers a great example of how to play three-finger power chords with various strum patterns. Included in 2016 off their sixth studio album, Seal the Deal & Let's Boogie, the song peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart, becoming Volbeat's sixth top-ranked single. Florida Georgia Line: "Dirt"

"Dirt" by American country music duo Florida Georgia Line, is the first single from their second studio album, Anything Goes, and was their sixth consecutive single to peak in the top 5 of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The mid-tempo ballad features a few strumming techniques and includes a three-note riff (A, B and F#) to kick things off.

Kelsea Ballerini: "Peter Pan"

Another country entry in this list, "Peter Pan" was co-written and released by Kelsea Ballerini in 2016. It hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, making Ballerini the first female country artist to top both charts at the same time. The platinum-certified track utilizes several useful open position chords and explores how emphasizing certain beats can create an entirely new groove.
