For more than half a century, we’ve seen trailblazing artists continually push the limits of electric guitar. So much so, in fact, that we might assume there are no boundaries left to break. And then someone like Tash Sultana comes along and forces us to rethink everything.
Known for their deftly-layered loop-based performances, the Melbourne artist went from sidewalk busker to worldwide superstar almost overnight. To experience Sultana’s music on record – or better yet, on stage – is to be engulfed in a mesmeric swirl of sound that’s both captivating and difficult to decode. With little more than a few effects pedals, two hands and an ever-present Fender guitar, Sultana builds towering and eclectic soundscapes that take rock, funk, R&B, avant-garde and pop to bold new heights.
DIVERSE TONES FOR THE INSPIRED PLAYER
An artist this singular and expansive requires a guitar that is similarly unique. Enter the Tash Sultana Stratocaster – capable of delivering a variety of sounds, styles and approaches just like the artist themselves. Indeed, Tash says, the goal with the guitar was “to make something really broad-spectrum and player-friendly.”
Much of this “broad-spectrum” approach is achieved via a distinct pickup set consisting of: 1) Yosemite Strat® single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions for rich and articulate tone with increased output and 2) a Tim Shaw-designed Double Tap™ humbucking pickup at the bridge for both full-throated tones and sparkling single-coil voices (with no volume loss in single-coil mode). Controls include a five-way selector switch, a master volume and two tone knobs — one dedicated to the neck and middle pickups and the other equipped with a push-pull pot to access the Double Tap feature on the humbucking bridge pickup.
This modern pickup package is paired with classic Fender design for maximum comfort. Features on the Tash Sultana Strat include an alder body, a “Deep C”-shaped maple neck with satin urethane finish on the back and gloss urethane finish on the front and a 9.5”-radius maple fingerboard with 22 narrow-tall frets and black dot inlays. There’s also a 25.5” scale length, six-saddle vintage-style synchronized tremolo, bone nut and Fender Standard cast/sealed staggered tuners.

The Tash Sultana Stratocaster’s inimitable looks are highlighted by a radiant Transparent Cherry body finish and complemented by a matching painted headstock, all-gold hardware (right down to the strap buttons), three-ply aged white pearl pickguard and aged white knobs. “I wanted something that looked ‘custom,’ ” Tash says. What’s more – flip the guitar over and you’ll see a neckplate emblazoned with a Tash “skull” design, an aged white pearl back cavity cover and Sultana’s signature on the rear of the headstock.
