While his production credentials grew shortly thereafter — working with the likes of Denzel Curry, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar — he explored his own music, releasing Steve Lacy’s Demo in 2017 to wide acclaim. The success of that EP led Lacy to his first full-length album, 2019’s Apollo XIX, which garnered him his first Grammy nomination as a solo artist.
Even though there are many moments that could be considered standout in Lacy’s career, 2022’s Gemini Rights showed that his momentum wouldn’t stop. A masterpiece amalgamation of R&B, indie rock, funk, jazz and psych, the album is loaded with hits, especially the chart-topping “Bad Habit,” a track he showcased to a worldwide audience on Saturday Night Live.
Through all the success, Lacy continues to surprise with his arrangements, his collaborations and his ability to spin musical gold in any setting.
