Fender in Focus: John Mayer, Deap Vally and the Regrettes

This week: John Mayer, Deap Vally, the Regrettes and Future Islands.

John Mayer: "Moving On and Getting Over"

In support of the recently released The Search for Everything, John Mayer appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live armed with his Stratocaster and a slew of new songs. One of those was the funky and moving "Moving On and Getting Over," in which he unleashed a trademark soulful solo.

Deap Vally: "Smile More"

Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards of Deap Vally stopped into the St. Paul, Minn., studios of 89.3 the Current before a recent show in Minneapolis, and the fiery two-piece brought the thunder with the single "Smile More". With Edwards agressively pounding the drums, Troy got some great fuzzed-out tones from her Fender Mustang.

The Regrettes: "Hey Now"

Los Angeles-based punk band the Regrettes made their television debut on Conan, pulling out the single "Hey Now" from their acclaimed debut album, Feel Your Feelings, Fool. For this big-time TV spot, both frontwoman Lydia Night and Genessa Gariano used Telecasters, although they were in differeing colors.

Future Islands: "Cave"

Future Islands continued their promotion of latest album The Far Field with an impassioned version of "Cave". The Baltimore band was awash in blue light as frontman Samuel T. Herring delivered the words with incredible emotion, pounding his chest and growling into the microphone, and William Cashion kept the barreling low-end with his Precision Bass. Afterwards, host Conan O'Brien even walked up to Herring and exclaimed, "You seemed to mean that!"
