Inside the Player Plus Meteora & Meteora Bass

For over seven decades, Fender has set the bar in creating visually stunning and amazingly playable instruments. One only has to flip through the annals of musical history to see the game-changing influence of the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass and their siblings.

Now, there are two new additions coming to that storied lineup in the Player Plus Meteora HH and Player Player Plus Active Meteora Bass.

First introduced as a limited run in 2018, the Meteora is the latest model to challenge all preconceived notions of what’s possible in innovation and playability.

Born from the mind of Fender designer Josh Hurst, the Meteora immediately turned heads with a sleek and otherworldly offset body evocative of the Jazzmaster. These guitar and bass versions also command attention with powerful Fireball humbucking pickups and smooth rolled edges on the comfortable “Modern C”-shaped necks.

"My design ethic leads me towards more futuristic shapes, more angular shapes. With this particular guitar, I had quite a few iterations," Hurst said at the time. "But once I finally settled on one, I took it from the piece of paper and started processing it in the computer.

“I wanted to make something that was unbelievably traditional and very familiar to Fender, and then make something that was crazy futuristic to say, 'This is where it could lead.'"

Hurst knew then that the Meteora would spark conversation once more people got a good look at its space-age flair. But he also believed that its undeniably Fender-centric aspects will make it a worthy addition to anyone's collection.

"My goal is that I hope this guitar becomes a new platform for Fender. It's almost as if it's a Fender-style shape evolved," he said.

Expertly crafted in Ensenada, Mexico, the Player Plus Meteora HH and Meteora Active Bass are meticulously refined and designed to deliver next-level performance from the studio to stage and beyond.

A completely new form of Fender instrument, the legacy of the Meteora has yet to be claimed by an artist, genre or era. The future lies completely in the hands of an inspired new generation of players that evoke extraordinary creativity, energy, vibe and tangible style.
